Administrative appointments
New administrators were announced:
John Palco as director of Finance and Payroll
Dr. Elaine Gould as director of Special Education
Dr. Whitney Wells-Corfield as principal of Wells Elementary
Awards and recognitions
Curtis Elementary fifth grader Karina Funes Ocampo (now a rising sixth grader at Elizabeth Davis Middle) was honored for acting quickly to keep everyone on her bus safe during an urgent health situation in May.
Two teams from Chesterfield County Public Schools excelled in the Stock Market Game, an annual game organized by the Virginia Council on Economic Education:
Swift Creek Middle placed first in Virginia for middle school teams this spring.
Manchester High bested more than 1,000 other teams across Virginia.
The Matoaca High softball team won the VHSL Class 5 state championship — the first girls team to win a state title in the school’s 63-year history.
Clover Hill High won the VHSL Class 5 state championship in debate.
For outstanding success in VHSL academic activities, Clover Hill High won the 2025-26 National Guard Cup presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. This is Clover Hill’s fourth cup, having also won in 2024-25, 2021-22 and 2015-16.
The board recognized custodial staff members for winning districtwide awards.
The board celebrated Chesterfield County Prevention Services.
Thanking advisory committee members
The board thanked volunteers for completing their terms of office on advisory committees.
Board actions
The consent agenda was approved, including these items:
The board authorized the appropriation of a general obligation bond net premium of $12,569,748 to the Grange Hall Elementary replacement project.
The board approved amendments to the FY 2027 financial plan.
The board approved a resolution connected to capital improvement priorities and this fall’s 1% dedicated school sales tax referendum.
The board approved changes to policy 3130 related to safe schools.
Superintendent’s report
The superintendent’s report included a meaningful moments video of an art partnership between Swift Creek Elementary and Capital One. He thanked people who spoke in the public comment section of the meeting, congratulated everyone who was recognized earlier in the meeting and spoke appreciatively about the work of staff members preparing for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
