Leaders from Chesterfield County Public Schools and Chesterfield County government cut a teal ribbon July 30 to officially open Deep Creek Elementary School. After the brief ceremony, families and community members explored the new building, which is the 41st elementary school within Chesterfield County Public Schools.
Noting that Deep Creek is the second two-story elementary school in Chesterfield County, Principal Dr. Courtney Jones said, "It reflects the vision of our school community and was designed with student success at its core. From open, flexible classroom spaces to thoughtful details that celebrate learning, this building isn't just new, it's transformational."
When it opens Aug. 24 at the start of the 2026-27 school year, Deep Creek Elementary will accommodate up to 1,000 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. The school is part of a community facilities bond plan approved by Chesterfield County voters in 2022. Virginia Public School Authority bonds covered the building’s $52 million budget.
Mentioning Deep Creek Middle, which opened a year ago, and West Ridge High, which will open next year, Chesterfield County School Board Vice Chair Steven Paranto, who represents the Matoaca District, said, "Chesterfield County voters strongly support investments in public education with the knowledge that schools are the beating heart of a successful community. ... Each time we break ground to start a new school or cut a ribbon to officially open the door to a new school — as we are today — it clearly demonstrates that our county is investing in our collective future."
Dr. John T. Murray, superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools, thanked all of the people who worked to make Deep Creek Elementary a reality. "The opening of Deep Creek Elementary shows that, working together, we have accomplished something great for our children," he said. "Our entire community can take pride in knowing that Chesterfield County provides excellent schools designed to help our young people learn and our outstanding educators teach without distractions or difficulties."
