Aug. 7-9 is Virginia's sales tax holiday

Families can take advantage of Virginia's annual sales tax holiday Aug. 7-9 to shop for school supplies, clothes and shoes. Families can save on back-to-school shopping during Virginia’s annual sales tax holiday Aug. 7-9. Qualifying school supplies priced at $20 or less per item and qualifying clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item can be purchased tax-free. Learn more and review eligible items.

School immunization clinic offered on July 27

The Chesterfield Health District is offering an immunization clinic on July 27 for students entering seventh or 12th grade this fall. The clinic will be held at the Chesterfield Health Department (9501 Lucy Corr Circle) from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Students must be at least 11 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by someone 18 years or older. Families should bring an insurance card if they have one, but those with little or no insurance are welcome. Registration is required. About the “Keep danger out of reach” email and text

On Thursday, July 23, families received a safety message about securely storing prescription drugs and firearms. Virginia law and School Board Policy 6138 require CCPS to provide this information each year to families via text and email.

Because the complete notice had to be sent by both email and text, the text was significantly longer than those we typically send. It did not begin with our usual “CCPS:” identifier and appeared truncated on some phones, causing understandable confusion. We apologize that the message was not immediately identifiable as coming from our school division. All of the information included in the message can be found on our website.

Supporting student safety online

Some student safety concerns may appear in online activity or student-created content. The school system uses a student safety monitoring service called Lightspeed Alert to identify certain serious concerns, such as references to self-harm, violence, cyberbullying, harassment or other potentially harmful behavior.

When a concern is identified, appropriate school or division staff may be notified so that follow-up can occur. Depending on the situation, follow-up may involve school administrators, counselors, parents, guardians, safety staff members or law enforcement. This type of monitoring is intended to support student safety and timely intervention. It does not replace the role of families, teachers, counselors, administrators or students in reporting concerns.

Student safety monitoring is connected to student CCPS accounts regardless of the device. When students use a Chesterfield County Public Schools account on a shared or family-owned device, they should fully sign out when finished. Simply closing a browser window may leave the account signed in, which could cause later activity by another user of the device to appear associated with the student’s account.

Sign up now for My First School Bus program

The My First School Bus program helps children practice riding the bus. Families whose children are registered for kindergarten or prekindergarten for the 2026-27 school year may sign up on a rolling basis through the summer. Registration opens two weeks before each event. My First School Bus is free but requires registration.
