Children grow home libraries at El Librotazo

Thank you to all the families who joined us for El Librotazo 2026! With more than 3,600 people registered, this year's event brought together families from across Chesterfield County to discover free books, celebrate reading and begin or grow home libraries.
Every book shared helps create more opportunities for children to read, learn and imagine beyond the classroom. We're grateful to the hundreds of volunteers, sponsors and community partners whose support made this third annual celebration of literacy possible.
Thank you for helping us build a community of readers.
School immunization clinics offered this month
The Chesterfield Health District is offering immunization clinics on July 24 and July 27 for students entering seventh or 12th grade this fall. Clinics will be held at the Chesterfield Health Department (9501 Lucy Corr Circle) from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Students must be at least 11 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by someone 18 years or older. Families should bring an insurance card if they have one, but those with little or no insurance are welcome. Registration is required. More information about the immunization clinics is available here.
Students compete in nationals without leaving home
When Richmond hosted the National Speech and Debate Tournament, most of the local qualifiers were from Chesterfield County Public Schools. Whether experienced or new to nationals, they enjoyed their home-field advantage in the world’s largest academic competition.
Students from all 50 states and seven nations competed in 42 categories ranging from original oratory (a 10-minute prepared speech) to impromptu (presenting on a surprise topic). Discover how speech and debate teams empower young voices and get to know remarkable students and coaches from Chesterfield County high schools.
