Chesterfield students created one-third of all of the films that were screened at the Virginia High School League film festival.
Students from 27 high schools across Virginia submitted 93 films to the VHSL film festival, and 45 were designated official selections and honored with a screening and awards presentation in June. Clover Hill High students created 10 of the selected films, and Manchester High students created five. Here are their films and awards in each category:
Experimental category
“Ecocide” by Sahara Sangari of Manchester High took first place.
“Monotony” by Rory Moore and Alex Horn of Clover Hill High took second place and the audience choice award.
“Starving in Dysphoria” by Emma Fraga of Clover Hill High took fourth place.
Commercial category
“Art Factory Café” by Justin Alfaro-Gomez, Lily Frantz Laferriere and Sarah Carson of Clover Hill High took fourth place and the audience choice award.
Documentary category
“I Play Music” by James Scott of Clover Hill High took third place.
“SHOW UP” by Bella West of Clover Hill High took fourth place.
“Shin Megami Tensei” by Tyler Smiley of Manchester High took fifth place.
Narrative category
“Dust” by Jacob Hill of Clover Hill High took third place.
“Time Capsule” by Sahara Sangari, Chloe Kendall and Taniyah Crump of Manchester High took sixth place.
PSA category
“Don’t Play With Water” by Jacob Hill and Maya Sweeney of Clover Hill High took third place.
“Twins” by Warren Antoine of Clover Hill High took fourth place.

“Asaka The Undead Magical Girl” by Madyson Staples, Chloe Kendall and Danika Heath of Manchester High took fifth place.
“HELP” by Terra Dean of Clover Hill High took sixth place.
“Wildstars” by Justin Alfaro-Gomez, Sarah Carson, Zion Cromwell-White, Hudson Dangerfield, Maya Sweeney, Nathan Baumgardner and Emma Fraga of Clover Hill High took eighth place.
