School and county leaders celebrated construction progress on West Ridge High School by holding a topping-off ceremony June 16, 2026. The first new high school in 20 years in Chesterfield County Public Schools, West Ridge High is scheduled to open for students in August 2027. It is situated near Deep Creek Middle, which opened in August 2025, and Deep Creek Elementary, which will open in August 2026. Topping off is a tradition in the construction world to put the final beam of a structure in place, along with symbolic items to commemorate growth, safety and hard work.

The Chesterfield County Emergency Communications Center is the top business partner in Region 1. The emergency telecommunications department partners with Chesterfield County Public Schools to offer the first class of its kind in Virginia in emergency telecommunications. High school seniors learn the daily operations of a 911 center and prepare for a career in emergency communications. Students who successfully complete the training qualify to earn their certification to work as 911 dispatchers. The partnership addresses regional workforce shortages while building a strong talent pipeline for essential public safety jobs.
