Bird High’s speech team won its first-ever VHSL state championship. Coached by marketing teacher Melissa Ligh, Bird High outscored all other Class 6 high schools, including Chantilly High and George C. Marshall High which finished second and third.
Four Bird High students won individual first places:
Krishelle Belcher in serious dramatic interpretation
Lucy Soukup in storytelling
Jeyssi Funes in impromptu
Dream Anderson in prose interpretation
Krishelle also qualified to compete this summer in the National Speech and Debate Tournament, which will take place in Richmond.
