 Administrative appointment

Dr. Elizabeth Baber was named principal of the west area high school, effective July 1. She is currently principal of Matoaca High School.

 

 

Public hearings

The board held a public hearing on the proposed FY 2027 budget and held a public hearing on the FY 2027 proposed capital improvement plan.

 

Awards and recognitions

Recognizing schools

The Chesterfield Recovery Academy was recognized for achieving accreditation through the Association of Recovery Schools.

 

Recognizing School Counselors of the Year

The top school counselors of Chesterfield County Public Schools were recognized:

  • Outstanding First-Year Counselor of the Year: Hannah Dowdy of Monacan High

  • Outstanding Elementary School Counselor of the Year: Kristen Bailey-Hardy of Falling Creek Elementary

  • Outstanding Middle School Counselor of the Year: Christopher Jeter of Falling Creek Middle

  • Outstanding High School Counselor of the Year: Annathen Lacks of Thomas Dale High

Recognizing staff members

The board recognized Sue Anderson, who was honored by the Virginia Association of Science Teachers for her work teaching science at Carver College and Career Academy.

 

The board recognized Jimi Herd, CCPS visual art curriculum specialist, for being named Virginia’s Art Educator of the Year and recognized Shannon Sissokho of Thomas Dale High for being named Virginia’s Secondary Art Educator of the Year.

 

The board recognized seven teachers who recently achieved National Board Certification and six who recently renewed their certification.

 

These bus drivers were recognized for outstanding service:

  • Cameron Raiford, Area 1, Bus 685, two months of service

  • Hossam Nassar, Area 2, Bus 271, 11 months of service

  • Angel Simmons, Area 3, Bus 718, one year and nine months of service

  • Erin Bridges, Area 4, Bus 971, four years of service

  • Diana Sutton King, Area 5, Bus 819, five years of service

 

These food service employees were recognized for outstanding service:

  • Outstanding employee: Pamela Ozmar, food service associate at Hening Elementary, 43 years of service

  • Outstanding manager: Terri Bennett, cafeteria manager at Matoaca High, six years of service

 

VSBA Employer Commendation Program

The School Board recognized Virginia Commonwealth University for supporting interim School Board member Dr. Jenna Darby, who represents the Clover Hill District.

 

Celebrating our partners

The School Board recognized Virginia Credit Union.

 

Resolutions

The School Board adopted resolutions recognizing February as Black History Month and as Career and Technical Education Month.

 

School Board and clerk recognition

School Board members and the board clerk were recognized in connection with VSBA School Board Appreciation Month and VSBA School Board Clerk Appreciation Week.

  

Board actions

The consent agenda was approved as presented. Memos of interest included:

 

The board approved Memo #017-26, which authorized the procurement director to award a construction contract to Suburban Remodeling Corp. for the classroom renovation at CTC@Hull in the amount of $3,567,000.

 

The board approved Memo #019-26, which approved weather-related changes to the 2025-26 school calendar. The School Board also approved a one-time waiver of policies 5240 and 5220 to add an additional vacation leave day for 12-month employees and an additional personal leave day for 11-month employees.

 

 

Superintendent’s report

The superintendent’s report included a meaningful moments video about a RACER parade at Chalkley Elementary; recognition of Black History Month; thanks to CCPS operations, custodial and transportation employees for their work during a recent snow and ice storm; and county government for clearing snow and ice from school parking lots and bus loops.
