Model County Government offers high school students an up-close look into Chesterfield County government. In December, students from every high school in Chesterfield County Public Schools participated in the annual job shadowing opportunity.
Based on their interests, students were paired with Chesterfield County employees in related fields. During the morning portion of Model County Government, students learned about the responsibilities, priorities and daily operations of more than 25 departments. From law enforcement and accounting to utilities and education administration, students had meaningful opportunities to see county government in action and better understand the work that keeps Chesterfield County running.

Students gathered after their shadowing experiences to share reflections and key takeaways, including a new appreciation for the essential work of county government. They heard from Superintendent Dr. John Murray, County Administrator Dr. Joseph Casey and members of the Board of Supervisors.
