Awards and recognitions

The Army JROTC of Thomas Dale High presented the colors.

Recognizing students

Seven students were recognized for being named National Merit Semifinalists.

Recognizing schools

  • Clover Hill High, Thomas Dale High, Matoaca High and Midlothian High were recognized for winning Trophy Class awards for school publications from the Virginia High School League. Midlothian High also won the Col. Charles E. Savedge Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholastic Journalism from VHSL and was honored by Varsity Yearbook as one of the top 1% yearbooks nationally.

  • Goodwill recognized schools for donating clothing to the annual Denim Drive and awarded prizes to the PTAs of the top schools.

The School Board recognized TowneBank for providing engaging financial lessons.

Recognizing staff members

These bus drivers were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Irene Allen, Area 1, Bus 804, two years of service

  • Nancy Andres, Area 2, Bus 28, six years of service

  • Janet Roger, Area 3, Bus 801, 14 years of service

  • Brittany Keets, Area 4, Bus 221, one year of service

  • Outstanding employee: Theresa Brown, food service associate, Falling Creek Middle, two years of service

Thank You, Team Chesterfield Week

The second annual Thank You, Team Chesterfield Week took place Oct. 27-31.

Oath of office

Dr. Jennifer Darby took the oath of office as interim representative for the Clover Hill District on the Chesterfield County School Board. Her appointment fills an upcoming vacancy beginning Jan. 1 and will remain in effect until a special election is held to select a representative for the remainder of the term, which ends Dec. 31, 2027.

Board actions

The consent agenda was approved as presented. Memos of interest included:

The School Board approved adjustments to center-based gifted sites for elementary students, starting in the 2026-27 school year.

The School Board approved the program of studies for 2026-27.

Board discussion

The board undertook a first review of changes to policy 4190 (student wellness) in connection to recess and changes to policy 3170-R (requirements for a waiver of the 140 clock-hour rule) plus a new policy 3176 (awarded credit by assessment).

Superintendent’s report

The superintendent’s report included a meaningful moments video about National School Lunch Week, presentation about College and Career Readiness Month, information about the FY 2027 budget process and highlights of work and progress throughout Chesterfield County Public Schools.
