Clover Hill Elementary students explored engineering concepts alongside students from the Governor’s Academy for Engineering Studies at Bird High. With Lego engineering kits, the high schoolers led an engaging lesson for fourth and fifth graders in the center based gifted program.
The high school students used Spike Lego kits to guide the elementary students through building and coding pinball machines. Each Clover Hill Elementary group designed unique machines with obstacles and moving parts programmed through the Lego platform.

Additionally, the high schoolers helped at Clover Hill’s book fair and spent time with the elementary students at lunch. There was also time to join a soccer game at recess, continuing to build connections beyond the classroom.
Courtney Rodgers in the school system’s Office of Gifted Education said, “This was a wonderful example of cross-level learning in action. The high schoolers demonstrated exceptional leadership and enthusiasm while mentoring younger students, and the elementary students were equally eager and engaged.”
