Weapons detection systems added to middle and high schools
Weapons detection systems are bringing an additional layer of security to every Chesterfield County middle school and high school. Starting in August when school opens, students and school visitors (including CCPS staff members who do not have badge access to a building) will enter through OpenGate scanners, which are similar to those used at amusement parks, concerts and sporting events. Read the email sent to families and staff on Aug. 1, 2025, that includes more information.
The new Davis Elementary is ready for students! Ribbon-cutting ceremony held this week
School and county leaders came together on Wednesday, July 30, to cut a ribbon and open doors to the new Davis Elementary School.
Dr. Kenya Batts, principal of Davis Elementary, said that she and her team are looking forward to the start of the 2025-26 school year on Aug. 18. “We cannot wait to open this incredible new learning environment for the Dragons of Davis Elementary,” she said. “From open and flexible classroom spaces to thoughtful design details that celebrate learning, this building is not just new, it’s transformational.”
The two-story building will accommodate up to 1,000 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade; 780 was the capacity of the old building, which was built in 1964. See photos from the event here.
New Chromebooks coming this school year
Chesterfield County Public Schools will issue new Chromebooks to students to support anytime, anywhere learning when the 2025-26 school year begins. Before Chromebooks can be issued for use at home, families must complete a Chromebook Use Agreement. Chromebooks will be issued at no cost, but charges may apply for loss or intentional damage.
No action is needed at this time, but be on the lookout in the coming weeks for important information from CCPS and your school about completing the required Chromebook Use Agreement Form and details about Chromebook distribution.

The start of school is nearly here: Update your child’s transportation info
As the start of the 2025-26 school year approaches, it’s important to make sure your student’s transportation details are up to date in ParentVUE. This includes confirming how they will get to and from school and verifying both your home and any alternative addresses.
Already updated your info? Great! If not, don’t wait. Making changes now helps ensure a smooth start to the school year.
What you need to know:
Bus stops and pick-up/drop-off times are now available in Versatrans e-link.
Update by Aug. 1 to help ensure changes are reflected when school begins.
Bus numbers will be shared soon.
As transportation planning continues and more students are added to bus routes, current route plans could change. Be sure to check your child’s route just before the start of school; routes could change as late as the day before school begins.
How to make changes:
Log in to ParentVUE, select your student’s name, then click “Student Info” to update transportation preferences.
Alternative addresses such as a second parent’s home or before/after school care can also be added or updated in ParentVUE as needed.
Need to update your home address? Contact your school registrar. Changes are not final until verified.
Need help? Easy instructions are available here. Call the Transportation Department at 804-464-3077 with questions.
School supplies and sales tax holiday
Crayons and notebooks and pencils! School supplies are moving to the top of everyone’s to-do lists as the start of a new school year approaches. Virginia has scheduled a sales tax holiday to help family budgets, which means sales tax will not be collected Aug. 1-3 when you buy qualifying items like school supplies, clothing and shoes. Elementary school and middle school families can find supply lists by going to oneccps.org, choosing their school, then locating “supply list” under the school information tab. High school students will find out specific needs during the first few days of their classes.
College and Career Ready Virginia Program offers tuition-free access to dual enrollment courses
Beginning this fall, students in Chesterfield County Public Schools have tuition-free access to dual enrollment college courses through the College and Career Ready Virginia Program. This partnership with Brightpoint Community College reduces costs for families and expands opportunities for students to achieve their academic and personal goals.
The College and Career Ready Virginia Program allows students to earn a 15-credit passport or a 30-credit uniform certificate of general studies by the end of their senior year. Both credentials are widely accepted for degree credit across Virginia’s universities, which helps students jump-start their college journey.
Chesterfield County Public Schools and Brightpoint Community College have collaborated to identify pathways of courses available at each high school that will allow students to complete the 15-credit passport or a 30-credit uniform certificate of general studies during their high school years. These dual enrollment courses are:
Offered on high school campuses
Taught by credentialed high school teachers
Available tuition-free to students
If you have questions about dual enrollment opportunities at your student’s high school, then contact the school’s counseling office.
