Friday Family Update

New this week

It is time to update your child's transportation information for the 2025-26 school year

buses

If you have not done so already, please update your student's transportation information by logging into ParentVUE to choose the way students will travel to and from school and to check your home address and any alternative addresses. Easy-to-follow directions for accessing ParentVUE are online, and your student’s school can provide additional assistance.

  • Bus stops and pick-up/drop-off times will be available via Versatrans e-link on July 21 after 7:30 p.m.

    • Transportation information must be updated by July 15 to be included in the bus stops and pick-up drop off times posted on July 21.

    • Transportation information should be updated prior to Aug. 1 to ensure that changes are reflected in your student’s bus route when school begins.

  • Bus numbers will be shared with families closer to the beginning of the school year.

Transport type: How will your student travel to and from school? Within ParentVUE, choose the method that your student will use most of the time.

Address: Here is how to update your student’s address:

  • Parents/guardians can make changes to transportation information by logging into ParentVUE, clicking the student’s name, then clicking on student info.
Alternative addresses are places students stay before or after school on a regular basis (for example: alternating custodial parent addresses). Families use ParentVUE to update alternative addresses and pickup/drop-off days as often as needed.

  • Parents/guardians can contact their school’s registrar to make the change.

  • Please note: A student’s home address must be confirmed by the registrar at the student’s school before changes are final.

More detailed information and instructions: See this document.

Questions: Call the Transportation Department at 804-464-3077.

July 14: Weapons detection system trial run at Falling Creek Middle and Clover Hill High

On July 14 during summer school at Falling Creek Middle and Clover Hill High, a trial run of the OpenGate weapons detection system will be conducted. This will help Chesterfield County Public Schools better introduce the system at all middle and high schools. A message with additional details was shared earlier this week with families of students attending summer school at these sites.

Now is a great time to talk with your child about items that are not allowed at school including weapons, items that could be considered weapons and toy or replica weapons. This includes, but is not limited to, pocketknives, pellet guns, Nerf guns, etc. Even if a student brings items like this to school by mistake, they could face serious consequences.

Chesterfield County Public Schools continuously reviews and improves school safety measures because nothing is more important than ensuring a safe environment for students and staff members.

One app is all you need for school meals starting July 18

Families will find it much easier to manage school meals starting July 18 when Chesterfield County Public Schools moves to SchoolCafe. This powerful app is replacing three apps previously used for viewing menus, paying for meals online and applying for free or reduced-price meals (MealViewer, MySchoolBucks and MySchoolApps).

In addition to making life simpler for families, SchoolCafe offers a great user experience and will continue to help families:

  • Make online payments for meals

  • View breakfast and lunch menus

  • Monitor your child’s cafeteria purchases

  • Set spending limits

  • Receive low balance notifications

Here’s what to do to get started with SchoolCafe:

  • Go to www.schoolcafe.com or download the free SchoolCafe app to your phone.

  • Create an account using your child’s student ID number. (You can find your child’s student ID via ParentVUE or by contacting your school.)

  • Set preferences and add funds as needed. (Any money that was in your MySchoolBucks account has been transferred to SchoolCafe.)

  • If you have questions or need help setting up your account, then call 866-442-6030 (toll free) or click the purple icon at the bottom of the screen to check out FAQs or chat with the SchoolCafe support team.

Math Specialist Educator of the Year

Dr. DeAnna Moreau was named 2025 Math Specialist Educator of the Year by the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She is the elementary math curriculum specialist for Chesterfield County Public Schools and also serves as an adjunct professor at George Mason University and Averett University.

In announcing the award, which was presented in June, the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics wrote, “Your exceptional contributions to mathematics education have been recognized. … This prestigious award truly honors and acknowledges your passion, ingenuity and dedication.”

Dr. Moreau noted that this recognition carries extra meaning because her mother, Patricia Taylor, who taught math at Meadowbrook High, won this award in 1990.
