Administrative appointment

Dr. Abe Jeffers was introduced as the new principal of Manchester High.

Awards and recognitions

Recognition of student success

  • Chandler Randolph, Meadowbrook High School student, was recognized for being named the Student Entrepreneur of the Year by the Richmond chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

  • The James River High speech team was recognized for winning the VHSL state championship for class 5 for the third year in a row.

Recognition of school success

These schools were honored for achieving Heart Safe School:

  • Carver College and Career Academy

  • Cosby High School

  • Thomas Dale High School (both the main campus and the west campus)

  • Salem Church Middle School 

Recognition of staff success

Patricia Zoldork of Manchester Middle  was recognized as the CCPS Nurse of the Year.

These teachers were honored as Beginning Teachers of the Year:

  • The Elementary School Beginning Teacher of the Year is Melissa Micou, who teaches third grade at Crestwood Elementary. 

  • The Middle School Beginning Teacher of the Year is Ramsey Deheck, who teaches sixth grade English at Bailey Bridge Middle.

  • The High School Beginning Teacher of the Year is Justin “Tyler” Warren, who teaches guitar, piano and orchestra at Matoaca High.

  • The overall CCPS Beginning Teacher of the Year is Richard Troshak, who teaches at Chester Early Childhood Learning Academy.

The School Board added OMEGA Disaster Restoration and SwimRVA to the VSBA Business Honor Roll.

These bus drivers were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Lamar Clarke, Area 1, Bus 37, 1.5 years of service

  • Kelly Jones Area 2, Bus 770, 26 years of service

  • Michele Yates, Area 3, Bus 888, 20 years of service

  • Jeffery Johnson, Area 4, Bus 946, one year of service

  • Lorissa Newhouse, Area 5, Bus 964, eight years of service

These food service employees were recognized for outstanding service:

  • Sonia Chavez-Garcia, food service associate at Tomahawk Creek Middle, one year of service

  • Javier Dubon, food service associate at Falling Creek Middle, two years of service

  • Cherise Felker, food service associate at Winterpock Elementary, four years of service

  • Tia “BUN” Theap, assistant manager at Matoaca High, three years of service

  • Koochane McDaniel, assistant manager at Salem Church Elementary, nine years of service

Board actions

The consent agenda was approved as presented. Memos of interest included:

The board approved memo #077-25, adopting the April 2025 draft Imagine Beyond Tomorrow 2025-2028 strategic plan.

The board approved memo #078-25 to procure OpenGate weapons detection systems for all middle and high schools.

The board approved memo #079-25 regarding year-end funds.

The board approved memo #080-25 in connection to state-provided bonuses for specific jobs.

Superintendent’s report

The superintendent’s report included a meaningful moments video about how schools strengthen relationships through house systems.
