Jonathan “Jon” Balasa was introduced as the new director of construction.

Awards and recognitions

Recognizing students

Harper Cox was recognized for winning the regional spelling bee and competing nationally.

Recognizing schools

  • The Midlothian High softball team was recognized for winning the 20255 VHSL Class 5 state championship.

  • The Midlothian High boys tennis team was recognized for winning the 2025 VHSL Class 5 state championship.

  • Clover Hill High was recognized for winning the 2024-25 National Guard Cup for VHSL academic activities.

Recognizing staff members

Dr. DeAnna Moreau, math curriculum specialist, was recognized for being named the 2025 Math Specialist Educator of the Year by the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

These teachers were recognized as Visual Arts Educators of the Year:

  • Elementary Visual Arts Educator of the Year: Shell Langston of Hopkins Elementary 

  • Middle School Visual Arts Educator of the Year: Erin Smith of the Adaptive Arts Program

  • High School Visual Arts Educator of the Year: Shannon Sissokho of Thomas Dale High

  • New to the Profession Visual Arts Educator of the Year: Zoe Brinson of Thomas Dale High 

Recognizing advisory committee members

The School Board thanked advisory committee members who had completed their service on advisory committees.

Recognizing bus drivers

These bus drivers were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Christine Lok, Area 1, Bus 497, two years of service

  • Sheila Barnes, Area 2, Bus 972, 15 years of service

  • Normesha Massey, Area 3, Bus 911, one year of service

  • Wade Riddle, Area 4, Bus 942, two years of service

  • Ben Shaw, Area 5, Bus 335, one year of service

Superintendent’s report

The superintendent’s report included a meaningful moments video about the first day of school at Bellwood Elementary (which follows a year-round calendar) along with highlights of CCPS work and progress.
