Prepare students for licensure as a Nail Technician

Nail Technician

This one-year course is designed to prepare students for licensure as a Nail Technician by the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology. Students learn to provide salon and spa services that include manicures, pedicures, reflexology, acrylic nails, gel nails, nail tips, nail art, and polishing. Included is a study of safety and sanitation, workplace ethics, the health and science of nail technology, state regulations, and salon operation (management, marketing, and computer software). Students operate, and provide hand and foot-care services in The Nail Spa at CTC. During the second semester, advanced students with their own transportation and no more than two absences may be able to participate in work experiences at approved sites.

To be eligible to take the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology Licensing Examination for Nail Technicians the student must be at least 16 years of age. The board requires students to provide two forms of government-issued forms of identification.

This program includes Honors credit for the Entrepreneurship credit with the expectation that students complete four projects throughout the year that extend beyond the standard curriculum. These projects are built into the program and are a great opportunity for students to expand their knowledge of the topics covered in class.
