I am honored to serve as the new principal of Meadowbrook HS.   Meadowbrook is fortunate to have great students, teachers, staff members, and parents and I am truly excited about becoming part of the Monarch family.   

As an educator, I have worked in a number of settings on the middle and high school levels. My commitment to servant leadership, equity, and change agency has remained constant and I look forward to serving our students, families, faculty and staff at Meadowbrook High School.  

As I work to become part of the Meadowbrook family, I am committed to listening, looking and learning to collaboratively build on the great things that are part of the culture and fabric of our school.  Collaboration is key to the success of a school, and I welcome your input, perspectives, and solutions, as we work to move Meadowbrook High School toward a shared vision of excellence this year.  

There will be many opportunities to collaborate and support our vision and our goals this year, and I encourage you to get involved with our school in the interest of supporting our learners  and the larger Meadowbrook community.

I also encourage you to support our various athletic teams, extra curricular activities, and clubs that are an intricate part of our students’ development.

This is Ms. Ellis-Pope’s third year at Meadowbrook High School. Prior to working at Meadowbrook, she taught at L.C. Bird High school in the Science Department. Ms. Ellis-Pope has earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Virginia in Environmental Science and two master’s degrees from the University of Virginia as well. One degree is in teaching and the other in Administration and Supervision. Ms. Ellis-Pope currently has her National Board certification in Earth and Space Science. 

Why Statement: New students matriculate to Meadowbrook every year. Every year, month, and day should be better than the one before. I am here to model personal and lead institutional improvement as well as support colleagues and students in their own efforts to improve.

Ms. Frias is excited and honored to serve as your bilingual assistant principal this school year. As a CCPS graduate of the Spanish Immersion Program at Manchester High School, she believes and values culture, inclusion, infinite learning, and supporting the whole child.  She attended VCU  where she earned two Bachelor’s Degrees in Elementary Education and Spanish language.  She has earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University and then an Educational Specialist (EdS) degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Tech.  Before becoming an assistant principal, she taught elementary school then IB Spanish.

Why Statement: I love inspiring young lives and helping students to grow. An essential aspect of instruction for me has been forming meaningful relationships and making learning relevant for students.  I firmly believe in creating a “fan club” for each student, and that ALL students CAN learn with the right support from their fan club.

Mr. White is a native of New Jersey. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Virginia State University. Mr. White brings over 23 years of experience teaching math in Petersburg, Chesterfield, and Colonial Heights. Mr. White was most recently a Math Coach with Richmond City Public Schools.

Mr. White has 20 years of coaching experience with football at Petersburg and Colonial Heights and wrestling at Matoaca. He was an Assistant Coach for the Matoaca 3X State Championship team: 2014, 2015 & 2016, where there were 16 individual state champions.

Why Statement: I love being that spark in a student’s life that gets them to understand that anything is possible. Everyone can learn and everyone can succeed if they put forth the time and effort.

Mr. Justus is an experienced educator with experience in health science and physical education, coaching, athletic directing, and administration. He received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Health Education from Radford University and a master’s degree in Leadership of Education from Salem International University. Raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia by a family of educators, he is a very hard-working individual who is driven to help all students become successful in school, college, and the pathway of their choice. In addition to his primary job functions, Mr. Justus has received the Apple of My Eye award, which recognized him for his extraordinary commitment and dedication to the students. When he is not busy working to make a brighter future for the students, he enjoys training and showing his Italian Mastiff Cane Corsos, and most importantly, he enjoys spending time with his wife Reese and two beautiful children, Kaylee and Jace.

Mrs. May is honored to serve as Dean of Students to the Meadowbrook High School community. A native of western New York, Mrs. May earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History Education from SUNY Fredonia, and her Master of Science degree in Special Education from St. John Fisher University. Mrs. May earned her Administration and Educational Leadership Endorsement from Longwood University. Mrs. May has been in the education field for 13 years, serving as a special education teacher and history teacher in Richmond Public Schools and Falling Creek Middle School. Most recently, Mrs. May moved from Falling Creek Middle School to Meadowbrook to teach history, and then, served as the PBIS Coach last year. 

Why Statement: I want to be someone’s Mrs. Urland- she inspired me to work hard towards my goals, to continue to love learning new things, to problem solve and to always know that there is someone to lean on when the going gets tough. I want students to know that I am their biggest cheerleader, will offer support and encouragement, and will hold them accountable. I know that each student is capable of greatness, and I hope that I am able to help them see that greatness within themselves.

Mr. Watkins is honored to reunite with the Meadowbrook family as a Dean of Students. He brings with him years of experience as a mental health professional, coach, special education teacher, and physical education instructor from grades Pre-K through 12. He attended Virginia Union University and Grand Canyon University where he received his Bachelor's in Special Education K-12 and General Curriculum K-8, and a Master’s Degree in Administration, Supervision and Leadership. Mr. Watkins brings a diverse educational background, having taught at Meadowbrook High School, Amelia County High School, Colonial Heights High School, and Tussing Elementary School. 

Why Statement: I am passionate about instructing and inspiring students to be the best version of themselves as students and contributing members of the community. I strive to show our students that anything is possible if we are efficient and consistent in our goals and beliefs.

Dr. Johnson is thrilled to join the Monarch family as School Counseling Coordinator for the 23-24 SY.  A proud three-time graduate of Virginia State University and student-centered educator, Dr. Johnson has worked in education as an Exceptional Education Teacher, School Counselor, School Counseling Coordinator and division Coordinator of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Master of Education in Counselor Education with a concentration in School Counseling and Doctor of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision, all from Virginia State University.  Dr. Johnson is a proud wife and mother of four children.  Her family resides in Chesterfield County.
