Academic Team/Scholastic Bowl

The Academic Team’s purpose is to allow students to participate in academic competitions showcasing their academic knowledge in the areas of literature, history, science, mathematics, geography, mythology, government…etc. Students will field questions in head to head matches against schools in their district and/or region and if they qualify-WTVR’s Battle of the Brains competition. It is an excellent opportunity for students to prepare for public speaking, be able to answer difficult questions spontaneously, meet other students who appreciate academic challenges and are like-minded and to experience a high level of competition!

Last year and this year we qualified for WTVR’s Battle of the Brains! We will also participate in competitions against several schools in our Local Scholastic bowl competition that will help us to prepare for the regional competition. We also do a Students vs Teachers competition which occurs after school on a designated afternoon, usually before regionals.

We practice one afternoon weekly for an hour. If there is a competition, we may practice more often. We have also traveled on a Saturday to attend the Regional competition.
