Both the Midlothian High softball team and the boys tennis team won Virginia High School League state titles for Class 5 earlier this month.
The softball team achieved an undefeated season, finishing 25-0. In the state tournament, Midlothian beat Riverbend High 8-2, then Kellam High 4-3 and finally Godwin High 2-0 to win the championship. Midlo pitcher Marlee Gaskell was named VHSL player of the year.
The boys tennis team did not lose a single set, sweeping every opponent 5-0 in its regional and state tournaments. In the state tournament, Midlothian beat Lightridge High, then Riverside High and finally Hickory High to win the championship.
