Schools are preparing to welcome new kindergartners this fall, which means it's time for families to register children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30. Registering now helps schools prepare for the best possible kindergarten year, which in turn will give students a strong start to their K-12 years.
In Chesterfield County Public Schools, April 6-10 is kindergarten kickoff week. Elementary schools throughout the district will welcome families of incoming kindergartners in a variety of ways, but the overall message is the same: Your child has a place in Chesterfield schools. This video peeks into Chesterfield kindergartens to provide helpful information for families.
There are two steps to kindergarten registration in Chesterfield schools: online preregistration, then in-person registration.
The first step is to preregister online. These documents are needed when preregistering: student’s birth certificate, emergency contact phone number and previous school info (if applicable).
The second step takes place in person at schools. After families preregister online, then their school will be in touch to set up an in-person appointment. Many of these appointments take place during kindergarten kickoff week. Documents needed for in-person registration are listed at bit.ly/CCPSregister.
Parents who have questions about kindergarten registration should contact the school their child will attend. If you’re not sure which school that is, then go to bit.ly/myCCPS and type your address into the school locator.
