Mrs. Susan Wilson, Principal

Welcome to the 26-27 school year, and welcome to our Curtis community!

I am a proud graduate of Longwood University, where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I later continued my education at Virginia Commonwealth University, receiving a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision. I also achieved National Board Certification in Literacy. The 2026–2027 school year marks the beginning of my 33rd year in education!

Before joining the Curtis Elementary community in 2011, I taught first and second grades in Hanover County. I began my journey at Curtis as Assistant Principal during the 2011–2012 school year and have had the honor of serving as Principal since 2012.

This year, our school theme is again "Teach to the Crown, Not the Kid." It reflects my core belief that every child has greatness within them, and it's our job as educators to help them rise to meet their fullest potential. With the right support, guidance, and encouragement, all of our students can achieve their academic goals—and more. We hope you will partner with us on this goal this year.

Outside of school, I'm an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and a proud 26-year cancer survivor. I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two adult children, Mason and Abbie. We love being on the water—whether it's boating, fishing, or relaxing at the beach. Reading and traveling are high on my list as well!

It is truly a privilege to serve this amazing community. Please know that I am always just a phone call or email away if you need anything.

Kevin Pierce, Assistant Principal

I'm a Virginia State University graduate, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Health/Physical Education. I continued my education at Regent University, earning a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. The 2026-27 school year marks the start of my 20th year in education! I am married, the father of two adult children, and a grandfather of two boys. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching action movies, and working on projects around the house.

I am filled with gratitude and excitement for the journey ahead. It has been an honor to work alongside such dedicated staff, supportive families, and, most importantly, our amazing students who make each day meaningful and inspiring. Together, we have celebrated many successes and grown stronger as a school community. Looking ahead, I am eager to continue building on that foundation — supporting our students’ academic growth, social and emotional well-being, and love for learning.

Thank you for your trust, partnership, and commitment to making our school a place where every child can thrive. Let’s make this year our best one yet!

Jennifer Leon, Assistant Principal

I am excited to serve as an Assistant Principal at Curtis Elementary for the 2026-27 school year. Prior to joining the Curtis community, I was the Dean at Ettrick Elementary for three years and a teacher for eighteen years in Chesterfield at Evergreen Elementary and Crenshaw Elementary. I taught both fourth and fifth grades including working with a special education teacher in a collaborative classroom setting for sixteen of those years.

I am a proud two time graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in International Studies and a Master of Teaching. Go Rams! In 2023, I earned my Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia. Go Hoos!

I have two children benefiting from a CCPS education. My son is a senior at William & Mary, and my daughter will be a sophomore at Longwood. I grew up near the Blue Ridge Mountains, so I enjoy hiking and being outdoors. I also love to read and have been in a book club for over a decade.

I look forward to getting to know the Curtis community and partnering with students, families, and staff to support the success of every student. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns, or simply to introduce yourself. I am excited to connect with you and be a part of the Curtis community. Go Koalas!
