Dr. Elizabeth Baber, Principal

Dr. Baber earned her BS in Biology and Chemistry, Masters in Teaching, Certificate in Education Leadership, and Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to becoming the principal of Matoaca High School in 2020, she served as a Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology teacher, the Specialty Center Coordinator for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, Dean of Students, and Associate Principal for Midlothian and Monacan High Schools in Chesterfield County.

Benjamin E. Shindler, Associate Principal

Mr. Shindler graduated from James Madison University with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Social Science and a minor in secondary education. After graduation, he began his teaching career in Chesterfield County. During his 16 years in the classroom, he taught U.S. History, World History, and U.S. Government. He later earned his Master of Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia and became the dean of students at Matoaca High School. He is in his 3rd year at Matoaca, now serving as associate principal.

Dr. Scott Birmingham, Assistant Principal

Dr. Birmingham graduated from the University of Richmond with a B.A. in French with a Business Option/Minor. After graduating, he pursued a degree at the University of Virginia and obtained a Masters in Teaching Foreign Language degree (while minoring in Spanish & pursuing advanced graduate courses in Spanish). While he pursued a post-graduate certificate in Administration and Supervision at Virginia Commonwealth University, he eventually got a Ph. D. degree in Educational Leadership from the school. Dr. Birmingham has 27 years of educational experience having taught French & Spanish for 7 years (levels 1-AP), served as Chesterfield’s Instructional Specialist/Supervisor for World Languages, and has been an administrator for 18 years.

Sheryl Doswell, Assistant Principal

Ms. Doswell graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in Sociology and Anthropology and Masters of Teaching Degree. After moving to North Carolina and back to Virginia, Ms. Doswell completed coursework at University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University for certification in Administration and Supervision. This is Ms. Doswell’s 30th year in education. Her experiences range from classroom teacher to building principal on the elementary and secondary levels.  Ms. Doswell has been an administrator for 16 years.

Danielle Brown, Assistant Principal

Ms. Brown earned her B.S. in Mathematics from James Madison University and M.Ed in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Richmond. During her years in the classroom, she taught mathematics for Richmond City Public Schools and Henrico County Public Schools. Most recently, she served as the Dean of Students at Midlothian High School. The 2023 – 2024 school year is Ms. Brown’s first year serving as Assistant Principal at Matoaca High School.
